چکیده
This study investigates land subsidence in Iran’s Miandoab Plain, identifying groundwater overexploitation as the primary geomorphological hazard. Utilizing 38 Sentinel-1 SAR images (January 2018–January 2024) processed via GMTSAR, ground displacement was accurately quantified. Concurrently, groundwater data from 12 piezometric wells were integrated with environmental layers—including elevation, slope, river distance, land use, and lithology—using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results reveal significant subsidence ranging from 2.9 to 36.7 cm over six years, averaging 6 cm annually. The southern plain and parts of Miandoab city exhibited the highest settlement rates, whereas surrounding highlands remained stable. Piezometric analysis indicates a severe average annual groundwater decline of 81.6 cm (59–100 cm per well). A robust pixel-based correlation analysis confirms a significant direct relationship between groundwater drawdown and subsidence (r = 0.66). Furthermore, environmental susceptibility modeling via Fuzzy Logic and RWR approaches classified 17.8% of the study area, predominantly the southern plain, as having "very high" subsidence potential. These findings underscore the critical impact of aquifer depletion on land stability. Consequently, the study emphasizes the urgent need for sustainable groundwater management strategies, specifically targeting reduced extraction in the high-risk southern zone to mitigate further geological and structural damage in the region.
