Abstract

Estimation of Dinevar River flood risk using Australian standard method

Abstract
Floods are among the greatest threats to social security and the sustainable development of society. Floods can cause widespread devastation, resulting in loss of life and damages to personal property and critical public health infrastructure. The purpose of this research is to zoning and estimating the flood risk of Dinevar River using the Australian standard method.
The simulation of the flood has been carried out based on the HEC-RAS version (6.1) (one-dimensional hydrodynamic model). The geometric data has been processed in the GIS by the HEC-GEORAS extension. Also the peak discharge has been calculated in diffrence return periods using Hyfranplus software and Gama distribution. After modeling and extracting flow parameters (velocity and depth), flood risk zoning was done using the standard method of Australia, which is the product of two parameters of depth and flow velocity (D*V). According to the morphology, the river was divided into three sections. The results of the model show that in the first section, the flood zone did not expand much, but in the second and third sections, the flood covered many rural areas and agricultural lands in the return periods of 25, 50, and 100 years. And the majority of the region is located in H3 and H4 risk zones, which requires flood management and risk reduction strategy to be prioritized in planning.
