Abstract
The tourism industry in rural areas plays an important role in reducing unemployment, increasing income and sustainability of villages. However, this industry is very sensitive to climate risks, especially drought risk, and the occurrence of risks can leave negative and irreparable effects in the villages of tourist destinations. Therefore, the current research was conducted with the aim of investigating the effects of drought risk on the sustainability of tourist destination villages in torshiz region. To investigate the drought situation in the region, rainfall data from 8 synoptic stations during the statistical period of 2000 to 2020 were used on a monthly scale. First, the values of the SPI index were calculated using DRINC software, then annual zoning maps were prepared to investigate the drought trend in the years in question. The values obtained from the SPI index showed that the study area during the statistical period (2000 to 2020) is in the drought range. Therefore, in order to investigate the effects of drought on tourism destination villages, a researcher-made questionnaire was used. In this way, the opinions of 30 experts, professors and doctoral students active in the field of rural tourism and hazards were used to evaluate the effect of each of the research components. Then the MEREC weighting method was used to prioritize the research components. The results of the calculation of the SPI index showed that during the statistical period from 2000 to 2020, the studied area faced a mild drought, and the results of the MEREC model showed that economic and environmental factors had the greatest impact on the sustainability of the destination villages.
